The coach who measures strength doesn’t train differently – they train with greater confidence

There are two ways to decide how much weight a client should lift during an exercise. One is based on perception: how the last repetition looked, how the client says they feel that day, or how many weeks they have been following the programme. The other is based on data: the actual force the client is producing at that precise moment.

  • The first approach is not wrong. It is the method the profession has relied on for decades, and it remains valuable. However, it has a clear limitation: strength cannot be seen, only estimated. And every estimate leaves room for silent plateaus, imbalances that go unnoticed, or clients progressing more slowly than they could.

A strength sensor like SUIFF does not replace professional judgement; it enhances it. Simply connect the sensor, have the client perform the movement, and instantly see how much force they are producing, repetition after repetition. That single piece of information changes three key aspects of everyday coaching:

  • Load progression is no longer based on the calendar but on real strength thresholds.
  • Imbalances or drops in performance are identified before they become compensations or injuries.
  • Clients can see their own effort on screen while training, and that biofeedback significantly increases their engagement during the session.

This final point is often underestimated. Biofeedback is not just an attractive feature; it is the difference between saying, "Give me a little more," and allowing the client to see exactly how much more force they need to beat their previous best.

When clients can objectively see their progress, they do not just train better—they are far more likely to come back.

Measuring strength does not make a coach’s job more complicated. It simply adds another layer of information to something they already do well. And that extra layer provides something that neither experience nor intuition can achieve alone: results that can be demonstrated, not just promised.
